I've saved some money to buy a very small terraced property in a very ordinary neighbourhood (and hemce was quite cheap). Fast forward years later, I've saved all the rent that I would have paid every month, and added that to amounts I normally save and then sold the first house (which naturally appreciated in value) and moved in a house that is double in value. Fast forward years later I plan to purchase a much larger 4-5 bedroom house. I accept that is only possible with some disposable income (fluid interpretation: for example can you save spouse's entire salary?), and living strictly on budget. I believe that Allah would only keep you away from something because its "ultimately" bad for you. I also believe in the hadith (Whoever leaves something for Allah, Allah will substitute for him something much better).
